Different indicators and patterns in handwriting form clues that reveal personality traits.
By studying these we are able to assess personality with remarkable success.
Some of the important clues that handwriting analysts look for are slant, pressure, rhythm, the distribution of the writing on the page and other details. All of these are evaluated and interpreted to make up the final portrait.
Two handwriting samples explained
The following writer is confident, capable and efficient. He is an intelligent and independent thinker with a strong element of self-reliance.
You will notice that not one of the words starts with a lead-in stroke and the t-bars are strong and well-placed.
However, he finds it difficult to make close friendships and often feels alone. Wide gaps between the words with a descending baseline attest to this.

The next writer suffers from low self-esteem and a sense of insecurity. Look at the very low t-bars in combination with the left slant.
She hides her real personality from friends and acquaintances as she feels that no-one will like her as she really is. She is confused and disheartened.
See how the lines begin to descend particularly with the word "tomorrow" and note also how the y's turn back on themselves.
She is strongly affected by what people think of her and will do anything to make a good impression. (Tall upper strokes combined with a "pretty" style of writing.)
As a result, she over-compensates for her perceived deficiencies by trying to achieve more than she is capable of. This adds an element of confusion to an already overstretched personality.
